History
Crocus Credit Union (originally called the Brandon Terminal Credit
Union Society Limited) was incorporated in 1952. Ten employees
of the Canadian Pacific Railway got together to charter the credit
union and make the first deposits. The concept was to provide
low cost loans to fellow workers by encouraging everyone to save
regularly.
Since 1952 Crocus has expanded its membership base to allow any
residents of Manitoba to join. In 1974, the credit union moved
to its current location which was purchased from the Bank of Nova
Scotia. Since then Crocus has acquired the assets of four other
credit unions: St. Hedwigs; Brandon Civil Servants; Brandon United;
and Brandon Mental Hospital Employees.
Crocus Credit Union is governed by the Credit Union and Caisses
Populaires Act of Manitoba as well as Federal and Provincial laws.
A Board of Directors of nine, elected from the membership, establishes
the internal policies. An Annual Meeting is held each year for
members to receive reports, elect directors, vote on resolutions
and provide input into the credit union's operations.
